MasterChef Club, students explored one of the simplest yet soul-satisfying Indian meals—Dal Chawal (lentils and rice) served with spicy Aloo Ka chokha (a traditional potato curry from Eastern UP/Bihar). Students understood the importance of balanced meals in Indian cuisine.
They learned essential cooking skills like boiling, tempering (tadka) and sautéing.
They experienced how everyday ingredients can be turned into a flavorful and fulfilling meal.
Cultural awareness was enhanced by discussing the regional roots and traditions associated with Aloo Ka chokha. Objective of this activity is to provide students with hands-on experience in preparing a traditional Indian comfort meal—Dal Chawal and Aloo Ka chokha. Students enjoyed the cooking session and expressed pride in preparing a homely Indian meal from scratch. Many mentioned they would try the recipe at home for their families. The simplicity of ingredients yet richness in flavor made it a favorite.
The session was a delightful blend of learning, cooking and bonding over food. Through Dal Chawal and Aloo Kachokha, students not only developed culinary skills but also connected with Indian heritage and healthy food practices.
