Rendezvous with Ruskin Bond

Saturday,5th August 2017 will be remembered in the history of The Sanskaar Valley School, Bhopal as the day we interacted with one of the prolific writers of Children’s Literature in India, Mr. Ruskin Bond. A prominent literary figure whose stories we have all grown up reading, where he weaves magic with words.

It was a most enriching experience for the students of classes VI-XII who waited in wonder and anticipation as the famed writer took his seat on the stage. The interaction was moderated by the Head Boy, DevakNaamdhari and the Deputy Head Girl, Simran Gupta. Mr.Bondanswered a wide range of questions posed by them. He spoke about his Autobiographical work Lone Fox Dancing: My Autobiography, pointing out to his young audience that it traces his literary journey and laid emphasis on the necessity to sometimes ‘walk off the beaten track’.

He shared his views on the contemporary literary scenario in India, bringing to light that many writers have taken up writing professionally and make a living out of it. Mr.Bond encouraged the students to make time to read as reading is now a forgotten pastime. He also spoke about the importanceof perseverance, taking examples from his own life. Such words of wisdom from a passionate writer anda cheerful octogenarian have left an indelible mark in the minds and hearts of the students and faculty of the school.
